The Sun shines for ALL of us,

The Sun shines for ALL of us,

She warms, heals and feeds us all.

She does not judge or discriminate.

She will shine for you no matter who you are, who you pray to, what you’ve done, what colour your skin is, how old or what gender you are,

She is the energy that sustains us, lights our path and lifts our spirits after life’s storms.

She’s always there.

Even after the darkest of days, she returns, in fact, she never left.

What if we lived like the sun and choose to brighten the path of everyone we met no matter who they are? Forgave and guided each other through life’s storms without judgement. Provided warmth and healing and became the light for those that can not find their own.

Let’s be like that, let’s be like the sun.

Hope, is born in the palm of your hands.

You don’t have to be religious or subscribe to any spiritual doctrine to reap the benefits of prayer.

Both science and religion agree that prayer works and can have positive benefits on both our mental and physical wellbeing.

When dark clouds move in over your life; pray to your angles, your guides, the universe, the sun, your favourite sports team, your idol, your inner goddess, your god or whoever you pray to and ask for answers.

Even if what you’re asking for seems out of reach, ask.

We find comfort and understanding when we sit quietly away from the chaos of the world with our palms together, our eyes closed and release our worries, talk to whom ever listens and ask for guidance, this is where hope is born.

Whether you call it pray, meditation, introspection, or pondering; taking time to stop, clear your mind and bring focus to resolving life’s challenges is good therapy and allows us to see things more clearly and deeply.

It’s when we are in state of prayer or meditation that the answers we seek often arrive.

Prayer may not deliver everything we’ve asked for, but, it does offer stillness and hope.

So, ladies and gentlemen, get quiet, and put your hands together for …..“YOU.”

You deserve to live in the real world.

As the sun rises over your day, you deserve the gift of time to observe and experience everything around you thats beautiful.

You deserve the gift of silence and serenity that’s found when you step into the natural world.

You deserve to inhale the sweet essence of ocean mist, forest foliage and rosebuds as they awaken your senses.

You deserve sunlight drenching you in warmth and bathing your mind, body and spirit in healing, brilliant light.

You deserve to walk barefoot on the sand allowing it to tickle your toes as the sound of waves roll in soothing every fibre of your being, bringing you to a state of calm.

You deserve to close your eyes and feel the wind kiss your face and blow through your hair as your entire body exhales, releasing your worries, your pain and your fears.

You deserve to lie down upon a carpet of soft, green moss and let your mind take flight as chickadees, sparrows and starlings dance in the sky and sing you their delight.

You deserve the stillness and tranquility that comes when you retreat and allow your spirit to breath and exhale.

As the sun sets on what has been a perfect day, you deserve to melt into the lap of Mother Nature, allowing her to caress your soul as you fall into a peaceful unencumbered slumber.

Every once and awhile, you deserve to press pause, unplug from the noise in your life and rekindle the romance between you and the “real” world.

Look up

8D6B1381-4098-4C8C-942D-621262A91868Look up from the busyness of your day, from your phone, your desk, your computer, the TV or anything else that disconnects you from the natural world.

Look up to the stars and marvel at how small yet so perfect we all are.

Look up into the mountains and believe that you can climb them.

Look up when you hear a child giggle and remember what it was like to play and to dream.

Look up into the forest and “hear” the silence and just breathe.

Look up beyond the moon and the glow of the entire universe and know that whatever troubles your mind will pass.

Your heart will soften, your mind will quiet, your body will ease and your soul will wake, when you pause, and just ~ look ~ up.

We are the poetry

By Toni O’Keeffe

We need not look beyond our own lives, our own hearts, our own curious souls to find the answers.

We are the echos of wisdom left behind by all those that came before us.

We are the foot prints leading towards greater understand of all that is.

We are the songs that ignite passion, tears and dance.

We are the deep whispers that exhale in the night guiding each other home.

We are the chapters and

the puzzle pieces in each others lives.

We are raindrops, heartache and the cover that shelters one another from life’s storms.

We are mountains, forests, oceans, and the wide open spaces that call us to explore.

We are fear, joy, unsettled thoughts and lies. We are the peace, the war and injustice that surrounds us.

We are the colours of our own lives, the magic, the madness and the miracles. We are all the things we seek.

And,

We are the masterpiece we crave to create.

Look inwards my dear ones, that is where you will find the answers to all questions, all pain, all life.

I am the rhythm and the words that will set you and I free.

Together;

We are the poetry

The Ache

My heart aches for

love not shared,

words not spoken and

chapters not written.

I have a hunger for places

I have not been and

songs that are yet to be sung.

My life is beautiful and good,

yet my soul yearns to be

with its common flame,

the one that both calms and stirs me- the one

that helps lift me

to be my greatness self.

So, I will wander until my soul stumbles

into that safe haven where

I will feel settled and loved.

THE BENCH

By Toni O’KEEFFE

There is a bench

It is rustic and beautifully scarred from the many seasons it has stood exposed to the west-coast rains, coastal wind, snow, hail and the heat of the sun beating down upon it.

Hundreds, maybe thousands, of passersby have sat, leaned, met, wondered, cried, hoped, dreamed or fell in love on the Bench.

The faded brown bench is well worn and bares grey lines where the stain has faded and the wood is beginning to crack. It’s original rusty nails now replaced with stronger bolts, but, they too are starting to decay.

The original wooden planks on the seat and back of the Bench remain in place and although they are splitting, still provide comforting support and a place to rest, think and exhale.

I am inspired when I come to sit on the Bench. It is positioned perfectly at the edge of the Englishman River estuary where the river meets the waters of the Pacific Ocean in the Straight of Georgia.

The estuary is a peaceful, soothing place that allows me to pause and let the aches of the world wash away.

Surrounded by lush forest land, tall wild grass and tidal mud flats, the estuary is the perfect home to sandpipers, geese, ducks, blue herons and other interesting land and marine life.

This is a simple yet extraordinary sanctuary when one takes the time to stop, sit, listen and observe.

The first time I came here the connection was instant. The view of the river, the ocean, the forest, the mountains, the wildlife and the quiet, drew me in and draws me back.

There is always something blooming or nesting beside the Bench. Depending on the season, tall white daisies, crimson rose hip, petite yellow butter cups, dandelions, tiny wild strawberries and in the summer BlackBerrys briars ready to explode with fruit, create a stunning frame around the Bench.

High sea grass caress all sides of the Bench, protecting tiny birds, baby rabbits or other small creatures that seek refuge under the cover of her wooden planks, reminding me that beautiful things are always being born in me, in the estuary and in the world.

I have watched eagles lock talons and dance in the sky over the Bench, sat in awe as the snow gently kissed the ocean in winter. Each spring I smile at the baby geese waddling into the world, shuffling through the mud trying to keep up with their parents.

There is a path that leads from the Bench along the river, guiding any curious explorer deeper into the sanctum of the estuary. The Bench itself is a path that leads my mind away from whatever ails me and takes me towards a peaceful stillness.

For over a decade I have come to this familiar spot. I came here to think after my father died. I came to this place seeking inner guidance both before and after my son Ryans death.

Time spent at the Bench helps me navigate my life, calms my mind, body and spirit and has helped me understand “me”.

I know the day will come when I arrive and the Bench will be gone replaced by something new and modern. Today I’m grateful for this perfect, safe, front row seat looking out into the world, that moves me to look deeper inward.

The river that flows into the estuary, sometimes appears to flow in the wrong direction. This happens when the ocean tides roll in and push the river upstream. This movement of water is a part of the beautiful ecosystem in the estuary. Life too can feel as if we’re being pushed in the wrong direction, swimming against the current. If we fight the current we become exhausted. If we surrender, relax and believe that the push of the current is part of a bigger system at work, life will also relax.

Today, I closed my eyes let the wind tussle my hair and the rain drizzle down my face. I was fully present. As I sat, I became aware of the support provided to my body as it relaxed fully into the Bench. My mind drifted off and reflected on the many times I’ve come here to heal. In this moment, the Bench and I were part of the surrounding landscape, my breath perfectly synchronized to the rhythm of the estuary. Any doubts I’ve ever had that all things are connected were blown away with the wind.

Everything, all of us, every animal, big and small, every tree, plant, blade of grass, the elements are one interdependent system of life coexisting.

As I left the Bench, I ran my hand across the weather beaten seat and gave thanks for the view, the support and the tranquility. Like the bench, I have weathered a few storms, I see the signs of grey in my hair and small cracks in my skin. But my path always seems clear and the view to my future brighter each time I have come to ponder, think and heal, on this beautiful, peaceful Bench.

I Wish…

I WISH YOU

I wish you a life of magic and adventure that will quench your curiosity.

A life that allows your soul to marvel at the beauty of it all.

A life that makes your feet dance, your beautiful heart sing, your eyes weep and your entire being come fully to life.

A life that when you die, you collapse from happy exhaustion, having felt it all.

That’s my wish for you

Stop 🛑

STOP 🛑

For a few moments, or days, or weeks, surrender to WHAT IS and just STOP.

Stop over analyzing every aspect of your life.

Stop asking why.

Stop trying to figure out who you’re supposed to be.

Stop being who you’re NOT.

Stop worrying about what other people think.

Stop and set yourself free from the expectations of others.

Stop worrying about time.

Stop looking for love and just love yourself.

Stop judging yourself.

Stop judging others.

Stop and ground yourself. Touch the earth. Let your mind settle and your spirit rest. Shhhhhh.

Stop – Surrender.

Let it all go and Just Be
